They had to draft him..otherwise there would be endless charges of homophobia. So the Rams stepped up and took one for the league. Less than 5% of 7th round picks ever make a team, so there wasn't much downside..but when the Rams picked him, it made NO sense..for the last few years, their D line has been among the best in the entire league...so where was he gonna play? He's far too slow to play OLB...and by cutting him the last day...they've removed any chance he had to catch on with another team.

I still think the Rams made a backroom deal to draft Sam in order to get the league to support their later move. They cared nothing about the issue. Only downside was the backlash which they were prepared to take.
