Truthfully I’m not that big of a sports fan, but I remember when sports was at least something you could turn to as a distraction from the rest of the nonsense in the world. Now the nonsense is front and center. You have the Redskins insanity with people trying to force an owner to change the name of his property, then you have tons of media attention devoted to a player who isn’t good enough to be in the league but he’s attracted to other men so he’s considered important, and next there will be some kind of backlash over him being cut too. Makes you wonder what kind of stupidity will be next.

The ruckus around Sam is identical to the ruckus that surrounded Tebow. Both players were elevated by external forces. Neither had the ability to play in the NFL.

I’m with ya. Rush used to say that the great thing about sports was that it was something you could invest everything in for a while with no consequence at all. That is certainly no true now that the libs have politicized everything.

Yeah, I fully expect there will be some “hissy fit” over him being cut. Would not be surprised if some team ends up taking him due to the pressure. Maybe the Redskins?

In the age of television and the internet, sports is now a very large segment of the entertainment industry. It's not "sports" anymore.

The end result is that it has taken on all of the idiotic trappings of the movie and television industries -- with drama, stories about stories, people with high public profiles who become subjects of stories for no reason that has anything to do with the work they do, etc.

The only thing missing right now is the sports edition of Entertainment TonightPeople magazine ... although I guess that's what ESPN and ESPN Online have become.

Exactly!

The Left can't keep their politics out of sports!

They corrupt everything they touch.
