Tables have found ways to propagate into other species of furniture. They are like cranberry juice that way.

There are chair-tables, sofa tables, end tables, hall tables. I think an occasional table is called that for those rare occasions when you need another table.

Even coffee tables are getting into the act; transforming from knee-knocking height to right up there where you can actually use it.

I have no end tables, hall tables, coffee tables or sofa tables. I am lucky to have a kitchen table, but it is small and insignificant.

Coffee tables, when I was growing up and had children of my own, served quite admirably as mini-dining tables for the younger kids....
