Word For The Day, Tuesday September 9, 2014
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
flexuous [flek-shoo-uh s]
-adj
full of bends or curves; sinuous.
[1595-1605; < Latin flexuōsus full of turns, winding, crooked, equivalent to flexu (s) (see flex1) + -ōsus -ous]
en cambio [ehn KAHM-bee-oh]
however; on the other hand
En cambio, podríamos ir más bien mañana.
On the other hand, we could go tomorrow instead.
Without coffee, I wouldn't trust what I was eating for breakfast.
Save time, save water. Eat the coffee for breakfast. I've been told that, like Viagara, it could make you somewhat less flexuous in the morning.
when my brother was a ChemE/PetE student at Pitt, he and his friends would often make a paste with instant coffee and consume it to stay awake. Pretty sure it needed to be eaten with a spoon, so there is that.
diff strokes for diff folks! makes the world go round! have been telling SG that there is very little overlap in her musical taste and mine—but that’s ok!
Obama thinks the rule of law is so flexuous such that he can Dictate whatever he wants no matter how illegal or immoral.
That was the fatal flaw of the “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” movie. Their utopia was brought about by one band’s music, when a true utopia would be diverse.
Speaking of which, Keanu Reeves turned 50 last week.
Strange things are afoot at the Circle K, indeed.
LOL! We are now compelled to go outside on the deck to get inside to the living room to get to the master bedroom and bath! I no longer can walk through the heart of the house, or use either the front, or back doors. I have to go out onto another deck to get to the car, if I have to go somewhere.
My husband is presently loading up a thermos chest with milk and ice (for his coffee) and I have retrieved cookies from the kitchen to stockpile in the family room since we can’t reach any food. Looks like lunch and dinner will be catered in.
Although, with the subtlety of difference in meaning between the two words, something flexible (bendable) may not necessarily be flexuous (full of bends). :-)
Nicely done Dave! The pics are great - I’m glad everyone had fun -
Love that song.... what did they play for the father/daughter dance?
My youngest son was studying engineering at U of Washington (Seattle) when he brought home chocolate covered coffee beans. They would sell them in little bags between classes at the U for a couple of bucks. “Cocolate & caffeine in one snack, what’s not to like” he’d say.
We had new tile installed last year and while it only took two days, it was kitchen and dining area so we were having to work aorund the fridge in our hallway! lol I had taken the time to completely empty it to our garage fridge and it turns out I didn’t need to do that.... I’m still finding little bits of dried gunk used in the tiles. Yesterday, even all these months later, I touched a bit on the back door knob- obviously a place I hadnt touched before...
I just saw the reply by the wife of Ray Rice...... first of all, she should pay someone to write for her, but overall she has that same attitude of so many younger women - it is their life. She is the exact reason why laws were passed that the police did not need a battered woman to press charges in order to arrest an abuser. I believe they have a child together and she is still defending him. Idiot
I have 2 stoves in my dining room, a freezer and dishwasher in the garage, a toilet in the driveway, 7 doors in the garage and no access to the front door, back door, basement, or upstairs. Sometime during this ordeal they are supposed to come into the family room and start ripping back the carpet to make room for a hearth extension around the fireplace/wood stove.
About that time I’ll go screeaming out to the barn.
The only question I have is whether his rehab/recovery/Oprah moment will come next season or later this one.
