Race Fans! We have reached the Chase. New rules this year:

The number of championship drivers in contention for the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship will decrease after every three Chase races, from 16 to start in the Chase Grid; 12 after Chase race #3; eight after Chase race #6; and four after Chase race #9

- The first three races of the Chase (27-29) will be known as the Challenger Round

- Races 30-32 will be known as the Contender Round

- Races 33-35 will be the Eliminator Round and race #36 will be the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship

- A win by a championship-eligible driver in any Chase race automatically clinches the winning driver a spot in the next Chase round

- Four drivers will enter the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship with a chance at the title, with the highest finisher among those four capturing the prestigious NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship.

Short of a fluke, the last 4 drivers will likely remain the last 4 at the end of the next 3 races.

Stewart, Harvick swap pit crews: Stewart-Haas Racing, the championship-winning NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team, has swapped the pit crews of it #4 and #14 teams, effective immediately. Beginning with Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois, the #14 team's tire changers, tire carriers and jackmen will switch to the #4 team, and vice versa. "We made this change in the best interests of the entire organization," said Greg Zipadelli, vice president of competition, Stewart-Haas Racing. "Our primary goal is to win races and championships, and this pit crew swap provides championship experience to the #4 team and continued race-winning experience to the #14 team." (Stewart-Haas Racing(9-9-2014)

Well at least this change doesn't happen in the middle of the Race like when chad-the-cheater did with 6whine & Jeffy Crews...

Johnson feeling better UPDATE: Hendrick Motorsports said Tuesday defending NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson is feeling "much better" after suffering from dehydration at Richmond. A spokeswoman also said crew chief Chad Knaus found nothing wrong in the car that would have caused Johnson's dehydration. The six-time NASCAR champion was assisted to the infield medical center following his eighth-place finish Saturday night. Johnson was lying down next to his car after the race and was helped by his crew to a golf cart. He spent nearly 90 minutes in the care center and needed 5 liters of intravenous fluids and said after he wasn't sure what caused the dehydration. Johnson plans to fulfill all his obligations this week associated with NASCAR's promotion of the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. Johnson has a full slate of media activities planned for Wednesday in New York, then again on Thursday in Chicago.(Associated Press)(9-9-2014)
UPDATE: Jimmie Johnson said the cooling system for his helmet was blowing warm air and that likely caused his dehydration following last week's race at Richmond. Johnson said the issue with his cooling system was discovered by his Hendrick Motorsports team on Tuesday. "It's nice to have a good idea as to what went wrong and why I got so hot in the race car," he said in quotes provided by Hendrick Motorsports. "It's a newer system that we've implemented, so we're just going back to our old faithful system that's worked for years and years. We should have the problem rectified." The team earlier Tuesday said crew chief Chad Knaus did not discover anything wrong with the car itself. Johnson said he's feeling much better and traveled late Tuesday to New York to begin media obligations for the beginning of NASCAR's Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.(Associated Press)(9-10-2014)

So which is it? Lies beget lies. I still say 6whine is working on his Broadway show...

Who has been too fast on pit road? Chase drivers are among those who have been penalized the most for speeding on pit road this season. With each position critical, any extra time on pit road can cost positions. A penalty could prove devastating to a team's title hopes. No driver has won a Cup race after being penalized for speeding on pit road since Matt Kenseth did so Aug. 2013 at Bristol. Travis Kvapil has been called for speeding on pit road a series-high five times. Next with four such penalties are Chase drivers Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Jimmie Johnson along with Dave Blaney and David Ragan. Kevin Harvick, also in the Chase, has been caught speeding three times this year along with Michael Annett, Kyle Larson, Casey Mears, Joe Nemechek, Reed Sorenson, Tony Stewart and Brian Vickers. Here's how Chase drivers rank in speeding penalties this season:
4 - #41-Kurt Busch, #18-Kyle Busch, #11-Denny Hamlin, #48-Jimmie Johnson
3 - #4-Kevin Harvick
2 - #43-Aric Almirola, #2-Brad Keselowski
1 - #47-AJ Allmendinger, #24-Jeff Gordon, #5-Kasey Kahne, #20-Matt Kenseth, #22-Joey Logano, #31-Ryan Newman
0 - #16-Greg Biffle, #88-Dale Earnhardt Jr., #99-Carl Edwards

Looks like those predictions are correct - early snow. Will it be snow all year though? That is the question.

Weather pattern is pretty close to last year, raining this week. At least not in the inches and tens of inches this time around.

And we are heading to the mtns for the weekend. Looks to be lovely, better than last year, which was lovely!

Last year was miserable with the highway washouts. It made my commute to work 3 hours each way. The cottonwoods along the lower elevation stream banks are changing colors, but lots of brown instead of bright yellow. The aspens in my yard are just showing signs of changing.

I am here getting the 40,000 mile service done on my Mercedes C300 which is my commuter car for my long drive to Colorado Springs that I have to do several times a week. All that mileage is just in 13 months! So far, with this car I have almost smacked 1 elk, 2 mule deer and 1 antelope. Missed just barely. The elk was in the middle of the road in a mountain curve in the road at night and when my headlights hit, she tried to scramble, but slipped and fell in the road. I was all over the ABS brakes and stopped about 6 feet from hitting her. She was on her side trying to kick my car and then got up and did like a bucking bronco still trying to kick my car. I was just thinking that my insurance agent is not going to believe the story if my car gets damaged!

Wild. We picked up a “new” car for me in the spring, a 2007 model with extremely low miles (older owner). Since I have owned it, it has been in for repairs for 2 months (all under certified pre-owned warranty). Right after that, I put a whole new brake system in it.

About three days after we got it back from the brakes, we were rear-ended on I-25 coming out of Denver. So back for repairs it went.

I am hoping we have no more problems with it.

Since then, my son bought a brand new Mazda. He is wary of used cars.
