I’ve noticed a lot more Windows 7 computers being advertized. Computer manufacturers are realizing that if they want to move product they need to sell what people want. More importantly, they are realizing what people don’t want.

No more ‘easy transfer’ doesn’t help. It’s no longer ‘easy’.

A friend of mine has a prediction: Microsoft will continue its decline and Oracle will buy them within 5 years.

He’s probably right.

This is what happens when you let the MBA crowd run a product company.

I just bought a desktop last week.

One of my criteria was that it came with Windows 7.
This was after I was given a demonstration of Windows 8.1.

My two WinXP systems croaked. I had to get a Win7 computer...but two months later and I am still catching up being able to do what I could with the old computer. A lot of my old software doesn’t work.

It won’t be getting a shove forward from me.I was quite happy with XP for a decade or more.I expect to be happy with 7 for at least as long (at which point I’ll have advanced Alzheimer’s).

Here's a hilarous critique of Windows 8 with animation. It brings up a lot of good points about Windows 8 shortcomings in UI design.

i wonder how much of the market change was forced due to business s/w licensing contracts that require o/s upgrades within a certain timeframe of a new version release. i would guess a lot.

I am very happy with Windows 8.1. We have it on one tablet, 3 laptops, and one desktop. One other laptop and one desktop that my kids use are still on Windows 7, but that is because they so rarely use them that I didn’t see the point in spending the money on it. Now that the oldest child is turning 7, she is using a PC more often, that those machines will likely see the upgrade soon. I simply don’t think people appreciated Metro...you can turn it off with Start8 and you have a much better and leaner operating system. Too much negative hype is the cause...much of it to blame on some stupid decisions by Microsoft, but the core OS is fantastic.
