Having a supply of food will be key if there is an outbreak. Grocery stores will be one of the few places that people will venture outside their home during an outbreak which makes it a likely place to pick up the virus.

Any suggestions on filters and masks? I have read that a P100 filter is effective against viruses. The masks come in S, M, L sizes. Is it reasonable to order on line or are there retail outlets that sell masks/respirators so that you can try them on as sizes and fit will often vary?

Grocery carts are germ magnets. I always wipe my cart down with an antiseptic wipe. Most stores even provide them now. I’ve gotten sick much fewer times since I’ve been doing this. Not sure how long Ebola stays viable on inanimate surfaces. I know Hepatitis B can be infectious for months on surfaces. People need to learn how to practice “aeseptic techniques” when handling things. Many common objects are filthy, and hand sanitizer doesn’t kill many of the easily transmissible microorganisms. Think Norovirus and C. diff.

An N95 filtering face piece with respirator will provide better protection than a simple mask, but it is dependent on proper fit.

A PAPR helmet or hood would work, and is not dependent on fit to face.

I have seen conflicting opinions regarding whether N95 masks are sufficient, so if one can afford it, going a step further might be the way to go.

Still researching other stuff.

A mask might help but you must cover all skin to be safe. Any exposed skin is a possible infection site.
