Sexual assault by law enforcement has been a problem in Oklahoma of late, with three different officers being arrested recently for on-duty sexual misconduct. Oklahoma women are understandably a bit anxious about the threat of being mistreated during a traffic stop, but Captain George Brown of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has a helpful tip for anyone whos worried: If you just follow the law in the first place so you dont get pulled over, you have nothing to worry about! Thats awesome to know, because Im pretty sure no one has ever been pulled over for a tail light thats out or a routine drunk-driving check. Or for no reason at all. But why dig into the root of the problem when we can issue inane advice about how women shouldnt have gotten themselves into the situation in the first place?
Browns alleged advice to Oklahoma women is quoted by an anchor during local news station KJRHs coverage of the most recent arrest, and his words of unwisdom follow closely on the heels of but what was she wearing? and maybe women just shouldnt drink in public or theyre just asking for something bad to happen in terms of victim-blaming for sexual assault. Just follow the law and youre safe from police rape (unless you arent), and if you did break the law, I guess having a cop force you into the back of his patrol car is just what you should have expected! I cant imagine his advice to just not get pulled over was well received by the dozen-plus victims assaulted and mistreated by the three officers arrested in the past month. Sorry, ladies, if you just hadnt been speeding then maybe this wouldnt have happened to you.
While teaching news viewers what they are supposed to be doing to avoid having a police officer rub his dick on their face, Brown doesnt mention what sorts of efforts, if any, are underway to teach police officers about the role they might, perhaps, be able to play in keeping themselves from raping someone. Ive taken the liberty of compiling a list of tips of my own for any law enforcement officials who are worried that they might perhaps get into some hot water one day for sexually assaulting, molesting, or otherwise harassing citizens while on duty:
1. You probably shouldnt be a police officer if this is something you find yourself thinking about a lot.
2. You probably shouldnt even be a citizen. Consider leaving polite society and becoming a hermit, where the possibility that you will rape someone during a traffic stop is approximately zero.
3. If you must be a police officer, just dont pull people over.
4. If you must pull someone over, dont rape them. This is not difficult. Billions of people manage to interact with each other every day without raping one another. You can do it, too.
I dont expect my helpful rape prevention tips to get a lot of traction in Oklahoma, where a fundraising campaign for one of the arrested officers made $7,000 before getting shut down by undoubtedly horrified GoFundMe admins, and where Browns victim-blaming advice was cheerfully received and parroted by the local news anchor. But just dont get yourself into the situation is too often the advice on preventing rape. Its time to change the conversation.

This is the same mentality that says, ‘If you aren’t doing anything illegal, why are you worried about NSA spying on you?’
LOL .... affirmation the police are dems and islamists?
All women in OK should publicly lynch Captain Brown.
Yep. “Look at anything I have. Search my car and my house without a warrant. I’m innocent!”
no to illegals, I’d say it’s the conservatives who typically defend ALL cops.
If cops are,in fact, raping women then one solution is,if you’re being pulled over in a rural or deserted area, continue driving in a sensible way and at a sensible speed and, while doing so,call 911 and tell the dispatcher who you are, where you are (as best you can),that you’re afraid and that you’re driving to an area where there are people around (preferably to a police station or fire station).Tell the dispatcher that you’re not fleeing or evading. And you should probably cite the recent reports of serious police misconduct as your reason for doing this.
I notice that “alleged “ is there, but if Captain Brown said this, it is past time for him to retire... Post haste.
Yes, there are conservatives who are all about ‘law & order.’ That used to be me.
Nowadays, I’m as much about defending our constitutionally-guaranteed freedoms as I used to be about law & order. Federal, state and local law enforcement are taking way too many liberties with our liberties - all in the name of ‘it’s for your own good’ - for my liking.
We have way too much law and not nearly enough order.
Wouldn’t it be safer for women to not drive? Perhaps that’s why Saudi Arabia doesn’t have this problem...they don’t let women drive. And if women in Oklahoma covered themselves like Saudi women there would be no attraction which would cause the rape problem to begin with. /s
Good point. I'd say I used to, but not so much now. They've changed, or I woke up.
personally, I have family involved in LE for a number of generations. It is what family has done for nearly one hundred years plus. Am not LE but my family is. My family is not perfect and neither is LE but I love family. Call me blind but I know and Love My Family. Have always stood with LE and will never change. Family is not always correct. Neither am I but given the choice I choose LE over a criminal every time.
The life insurance carriers for Oklahoma police, state, county, and municipal, should be calling before noon today to triple or quadruple the rates for all OK agencies.
The OK government and the OK people need to get these idiots off the streets and out of their positions as police officers.
This moron needs a serious attitude adjustment.
Imagine what I might suggest that would get my post removed by the moderator and double it.
I have a wife and daughter. The perp...excuse me “officer” would be going to trial in a wheelchair.
This is excellent advice. It should be followed in any State where you live. Any woman driving alone should have a cellphone. Be especially careful driving in isolated or lonely areas during the day and especially at night. Things are really getting out of hand when we have to be fearful of our own police. Don’t take a chance... this has happened too many times during the past as well.
Sohhh, don’t do anything wrong and you’ll be safe from criminals?
Got it...you insensitive ass.
And they’ll be ticket and verbally abused for using a phone while driving.
Just so.
The WSJ Editorial Page can K*ss My A$$ for that one plus the Amnesty for Lawbreakers they keep pushing.
He needs to be whacked with a clue by four.
or “why do you need a gun to protect yourself”....
