I still remember when the frizzy-haired, granny-glasses-wearing girl came up to me in the hall in high school and demanded that I sign the petition calling for the impeachment of Nixon. I asked her what specific crimes Nixon had committed. She stood there thinking for a minute and then walked away.
Nixon’s crime was that he beat the snot out of McGovern in the 1972 election and the Democrats were on the ropes. The press had to save their employers.

Bingo. He was convicted of nothing but was booted out of office in the first major lawfare attack.
