I love cruising, but think the staffing is a big flaw. A lot is done by franchisers who run parts of the ship. The staff is global, so they can't always communicate with each other. They sign contracts for less than a year, so there's a lot of transition, every leg of a cruise. They don't have the full knowledge of a ship a long-serving permanent staff would.

I'd think there are a lot more problems than we know about.

Having cruised half a dozen times, we have noticed international staff appear to be more and more from Muslim nations. I have not personally had any negative experience with the staff, all have been professional (NCL, RCL, Princess, Disney, Carnival)but it is obvious the percentage of Muslim staff is increasing.
