Some of us don’t have the resources to purchase a new cellphone with LTE, or live in a non-rural area with perfect 24/7 access to supporting cell coverage towers.

A pair of walkie-talkies will only set you back about 40 dollars plus tax. Less, sometimes, on sale and some sites offer free shipping with a minimum order purchase.

My little town would be covered with the range available in those tiny units, at least the half on the side of the hill in the middle of town. The other side would not be accessible unless I was physically there, but if necessary I am sure that someone would “pass a five” (10-5) as we CB’rs used to do.
