Marvel should have given Thor a female sidekick: Itchy.
Thor & Itchy
Theyve already said as much. Thor Odinson become unworthy to wield Mjolnir (the hammer) and has to go on a journey of self discovery to regain his worthiness.
In the meantime, one of the women close to him picks up the hammer and takes on the power and mantle of Thor. Who it is (Sif, Jane Foster, Friedja etc) is going to be a deliberate mystery for a while.
Eventually Thor Odinson will again become worthy, creating a conflict over who gets the hammer.
Not a bad story arc, but they’re definity playing up the Thor as a Chick angle to sell comics and entice girls into reading them. Which isn’t a bad marketing tactic.
When they first floated the idea they were saying she was going to be a lesbo.
For the record I don't want a white Luke Cage and I don't want a male Elektra. Oh and the Human Torch is going to be black in the new Fantastic Four movie, maybe this is good because the movie looks horrible and Fox will finally lose the rights to the movies for this franchise.
They’re not really changing canon here. Thor Odinson is still male, just becomes unworthy to pick up the hammer. It happens to be a female that does.
Just like with Captain America being Black. Steve Rogers is still White, but passes the name onto Sam Wilson/Falcon (who has been a Cap sidekick for a long time). There have been multiple non-Rogers Caps over the years, most recently Bucky Barnes, who was the WWII sidekick captured by the Soviets and brainwashed into becoming the Winter Soldier.
There have also been female Thors over the years. They’ve just gone by names like Thorita or Lady Thor. People need to stop falling for the media marketing hype/contrived controvesy and chill out about this.
I would like a GI Joe movie actually based on the comic or to a point the cartoon.
Women don’t want to watch a woman as Thor. Chris Hemsworth was just FINE.
Exactly. People who aren’t familiar with comics don’t understand how story arcs work. Batman has been played (temporarily) by Dick Grayson, Superman and even Alfred but in the end, it’ll eventually be Bruce Wayne again. Same with Peter Parker / Ben Reilly and the Spider clones. Or Steve Rogers being Cap / US Agent / Cap again.
It happens all the time. It’s a story some marketing genius thought might sell a few extra books. Nothing more, nothing less.
Collectible? Like MASH beer was—NWAS!
I like Marvel but this may be the end. This is why Frank Miller, especially the Dark Knight graphic novels, is a breath of fresh air. He castigates liberalism.
The comic shows Thor on his knees and someone behind saying he has become unworthy.
Thor answers: “Because I do not have enough estrogen!”
I believe DC has a muslim (lower case on purpose) Green Lantern.
When I saw Stan Lee speak this summer, he only talked about the movies and on the publishing side he talked about new heroes from India, et al. Every demographic you could think of.
Nothing about story arcs, content, etc. Just superficial feel good racial identity (except white).
“Their” G.I.Joe will never be an “American” hero. Hollywood targets for the international markets now.
Superman has given up his US citizenship. No longer stand for Truth, Justice, and The AMERICAN WAY.
Captain America was sold abroad as The First Avenger.
Very true.
I’ve seen a few homemade attempts on YouTube, aside from Hollywood glitz and CGI, could be better than those things at 5he box office.
The only thing that’s even remotely interesting about this is that, unlike multiple previous times Thor has been a chick (and even a frog once), comics are big enough for people that aren’t nerds to know it’s happening. I’m not really sure which crowd needs to STFU more, the non-nerds who think this is some awesome feminist thing, or the non-nerds who think this is some evil feminist thing, both crowds are equally annoying in their need to inflict views on a simple event that has happened before and will happen again. It’s just a story, comics are filled with them, probably won’t last 6 months, 1 year tops, Thor will be back to a dude, and the moving hand, having drawn, will move on.
Stan hasn’t been involved in story decisions at Marvel in decades. He throw out occasional limited series, mostly printed by companies that aren’t Marvel, but that’s as close to knowing anything about story arcs he is, unless he’s buying the books and reading them just like us.
Here's a good one:Dirty Laundry
From Avengers:
Natasha: You might want to sit this out Cap, these guy’s are basically gods.
Cap: There’s only one God, ma’am, and I don’t think he dresses like that.
And then in Man of Steel Clark could seek out wisdom from Jor El’s hologram, but instead goes to a Christian priest.
So maybe things aren’t all that bad ...
