Understanding the Risks of Ebola, and What "Direct Contact" Means
The New York Times ^ | October 2, 2014 | Denise Grady

Can you catch Ebola on a crowded bus or train if you are standing next to someone who is infected? What if that person sneezes or coughs on you? If the person has symptoms, the answer could be yes.

Uhm...8th paragraph: Director of CDC says "Ebola does not cause respiratory problems, but a cough from a sick patient could infect someone close enough to be sprayed with droplets of mucus or saliva. Droplets can generally fly about three feet, so people dealing with anyone who may be ill are told to stand at least three feet away, preferably six."

There is a word for this. It's called AIRBORN. No?

Yup. Airborn.

And idiot from USAToday said 8 hours ago: "But here's what all of the scary germs mentioned above have in common: They can spread through the air, Ebola doesn't."

Yeah, right.

When I’m in a store and somebody sneezes or coughs near me, I instinctively/impulsively jump away from them like a rattlesnake on crank.

That might be weird but I don’t catch bugs.

No it's not Airborn or Airborne, technically, but that's where the CDC is splitting hairs, and doing a disservice to everyone.JMHO.

Airborne particles, as I understand it are small and can stay in the air and be circulated through the ventilation system system.

Sneezing or coughing spreads larger particles which will not stay in the air for as long, and hit the floor rather than circulating/floating around.

That's just my understanding of how I heard it explained. To most people, a sneeze or cough is considered airborne.

It's only airborne if the white hut can be infected by the people on the other side of the fence, or if it is in the ball washers on the golf courses in suburban DC.

BTW, this Liberian guy should have a thorough forensic investigation of his finances. The likelihood he was paid to catch Ebola and bring it here is mighty high IMHO. Follow the money and tickets.

Just like Ebola...

How is the common cold transmitted?

The common cold is spread either by direct contact with infected secretions from contaminated surfaces or by inhaling the airborne virus after individuals sneeze or cough. Person-to-person transmission often occurs when an individual who has a cold blows or touches their nose and then touches someone or something else. A healthy individual who then makes direct contact with these secretions can subsequently become infected, often after their contaminated hands make contact with their own eyes, nose, or mouth. A cold virus can live on objects such as pens, books, telephones, computer keyboards, and coffee cups for several hours and can thus be acquired from contact with these objects.

“probably” “likely to stay home”
The guy who was spraying blood on a public sidewalk didn’t stay home.
And I would have painted that wall—that the old boy has decorated with human figures blowing chunks from both ends—a light color so the blood could be seen.
Africans don’t seem to understand or respect AIDs or Ebola, and our Dear Leader, as usual, sees no need to try and protect the citizenry, so now we have to deal with this African mess.

Another stunning performance from Barrymore! And he’s got his hands full, as well, trying to salvage his legacy (as it is) from the judgment of history that he screwed the pooch on everything, but particularly in the Levant with Syria and Iraq.
“Decimated”. “JV”. “Mission accomplished”. Indeed.

Wait till this enters the gay community.

West Africa does not promote homosexuality as we do.

Per medical dictionary...or is it dictionery..., airborne infection: one that is contracted by inhalation of microorganisms or spores suspended in air on water droplets or dust particles.

I guess now we need a definition of "suspended."

What a perfect lousy storm this is having a president who is from Africa at a moment when Africans are now bringing deadly 3rd world diseases to us. Do we really beleive he will make his brothers stay home when the treatment here is so much better?

What do you think that African Nation Leaders Conference was Obola held back in July? It was to make arrangements to share.

Our community organizer is done graduated to global community organizer, showing the rest of the world that he can kill off America, building his resume for post presidency positions around the globe.

It's really quite stunning. What's even more stunning is that the stupid beltway crowd endorses him, thinking their way of life is guaranteed. They will be the first to see the pitchforks, torches, tar, and feathers.

What’s going on at the NYT? They aren’t reading the talking points from Obama.

I guess now we need a definition of “suspended.”

Suspended, as in the constitution, because that is where the
Obama hopes this leads.

So when your lungs are liquefying and bleeding out, you shouldn't have any breathing problems, right?
