I especially remember some of our fine essayist! I looked forward to seeing their newest and the discussions following. Many went on to to be banned and after 9/11 you don’t see near as many original Free Republic essays.
I did the reset for the new servers or login change after 9/11, and can’t remember my original, but I remember staying up late to catch-up on the discussion of the clinton scandal of the day. And I think we ripped Reagan a good one for amnesty too. But it’s been a long time and 6-7 computers ago.
I live in Alaska, work long hours and most of the time I don’t have to post because someone else has already brought up my point or question.
Many of us have been around longer than our sign-up date indicates. There was a move to a larger server in 98 and the original dates were lost. I think I really joined in 97. I was a frequent poster on USA vs. Clinton threads which became America, The Right Way.
Which brings me to the topic. When do you stop fighting? When you're half broke? When you've lost a leg, say? At what point is it enough, that it's all that they could ask, and that you pass the torch to others who are yet whole, who can, at least, march without hurting? How about two legs? What then, do you stop, because it's all you can do, and you fade quietly into oblivion? Can you still stay up nights, after all these years? Can you watch your sons pick up the torch without falling back into senescence? Can you still drag yourself to keyboard and monitor and fight for your country? Can you do that?

It sure has. Conservatives don’t even have a political party to belong to any more. The same people running the two major parties, we are likely wasting our time arguing with each other.

Have done some analysis on that. Not ready to lay it all out, but I can put the blame squarely on Obama and his democrat sycophants.
As a result, a direct result, the country, and the Republican party which was already is tatters, has sectioned off in pieces and no longer trusts any government agency of any kind at all much less each other...
Of course it is mostly seen on the republican, independent and libertarian sides of the political spectrum, but it also beginning to affect the democrats. Not the usual progressive liberals, but the democrat voters who date back to the Roosevelt democrats and are much more moderate but vote straight ticket just as many Reagan repubs do.
The country, my country, is cracking like a egg and all the stuff is held in by the membrane only.
I don’t know who can put humpty dumpty back together again, or even if it’s worth doing...
All this caused by such a small group of people is embarrassing. But they have educated our kids for at least two generations and starting a third.. And therein lies the problem going forward.
