Split Would Separate PC, Printer Operation From Corporate Hardware and Other Units
Hewlett-Packard Co. HPQ +2.00% plans to break in two, separating its personal-computer and printer businesses from its corporate hardware and services operations, according to people familiar with the matter.

HP makes too far too many different printers! All you need to do is to walk thru the ink cartridge shelves and realize there are too many types! Each unique for a printer as to maximize the profit.
Blame all that on marketing, not the engineering.
Reduce the types of ink cartridges to a few common types. Emphasize the need for a decent printing except all that “gee-whiz” features, most of them useless!
I used to love HP but they got away from the visions of their founders!
I always bought HP printers and scanners, but their support for peripheral devices like these sucks.
When I bought my last printer, I spied my old Brother electric typewriter in the basement and bought a brother printer. It is probably the best printer I’ve ever owned.
I recently bought a Brother printer and really like it too.
My printer is about 6 years old and the model has been on the market for a couple of years longer the that. Since I only do text, a mono laser works for me.
Some reason Studebaker comes to mind.
Hewlett and Packard are getting divorced?
Is HP no longer considered techy enough to get a Tech Ping?

I've been away from home since well before this was posted. I just got online today.

I was trying to make a joke that HP isn’t worthy of a tech-ping
Have a great weekend!
I have used nothing but Brother multi-function machines for the last ten years. They are awesome. I wouldn’t even consider HP.
From what I’ve seen during the past several years, the only thing HP is good for is Servers, and laser printers. Everything else from them sucks. (God help you if you need to contact their support....unless you have a translator on hand)
Usually whenever I need to contact them, I know what to say to get ‘escalated’ to their higher level support, and get an American tech on the line. Those guys are normally very helpful. I think their call center drones in India are just there to instruct you to verify that your firmware and HP server software is the latest version/updated, and I’ve NEVER seen that resolve an issue I’m calling about LOL.
keyboard spew alert
Same here. I loved working for DEC. I was laid off because of the COMPAQ acquisition. COMPAQ / HP? They are dead to me :)
I remember that the next time we need a printer. Thanks.
HP sells a new printer for $38. The (included) ink cartridges last about 50 copiesthey get replaced with HP cartridges that cost $45 each. :(
A local place called Cartridge World refills old cartridges and sells them for about $10 each.
:p
>So, does that mean there will be a Hewlett Corp. and a Packard Corp?
And will they go back to making great cars? ;-)
Brother stuff sucks the meat whistle. I’ll NEVER own another, and told them they were on the hairy edge of getting reported to my state AG as I felt their loathsome behavior was borderline fraudulent. I had an AIO that among other things wouldn’t scan because I didn’t refill the very expensive ink when ordered. It would still scam though.
