I once had a guy approach me in the parking lot of a pricey mall. He was holding a broken fan belt and said he and his family were traveling on vacation from out of town and his fan belt broke. He wanted a few bucks to get a replacement.

Exactly a week later a different guy holding the same fan belt approached me in the same parking lot with the exact same story. When I called him on it, he made a feeble attempt to deny it, then just walked off.
