If you already have money, Mexico can be a cheap place to live to make that money last longer.
It’s the ones who are broke who are trying to get the the US.
I’ve been to Luxembourg and Switzerland and could live either place, I just don’t know if I could afford it.
Several European countries are missing—and Greece is just one spot ahead of Saudi Arabia. Where are Finland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, and Malta on the list? I would think any European country would be ahead of any mostly-Muslim country, since even the Muslim countries that appear safe now may turn dangerous in the future for “infidels.”
Costa Rica has gotten kind of expensive in the last 10 years. That is why it is down the list.
Ecuador is number one because of HGTV’s House Hunters International. You can still buy an ocean front condo for under $150K. You can buy an ocean front house for under $250k. These prices are UP from 50-100% from 5-10 years ago.
I’ve been talking to quite a few expats from the US that live there and in the past two years they can only recall two murders.

There is no way I’d drive through Mexico! The State Dept has travel warnings for every Mexican state on the route. People I’ve talked to who did drive said they had to have “spare” money for bribes as hauling a trailer is like having a sign that says “INSPECT ME!” They also said that if you stop for the night you have to guard your trailer or it may be empty in the morning. They also said to be sure and drive only during daylight.
Really? And your documentation on that statement?
There are two places I’d never consider...and Mexico is both of ‘em.
I found Cancun quite enjoyable though.
Mexico is a bug country and not every place is a drug infested hell hole ( like the one’s close to our borders ).

We used to get some excellent and reasonable time shares in Mexico. We quit that 15 years ago.
So we went to the cruise lines with stop overs in Mexico, and we stopped that about 7 years ago.
Belize is a small place, but relatively it has a high level of crime:

Keep in mind. Many of these are countries that wealthy Europeans are moving to. If you watch HGTV’s House Hunters International, you will see many Brits moving to Spain, Portugal, Crete, Cyprus, and other southern European destinations.
IF you are living in London, Paris or Berlin. Many of these other EU countries seem like a real bargain. Plus it does not rain all the time.
For me, I would move to Ecuador, Chile or Thailand. You can live pretty cheap in these countries and they like Americans. They are also relatively safe. Remember, you do not have to buy a house/condo. You can establish residency buy putting X dollars into their banks.
If you are a nurse/doctor or other NEEDED professions you can move anywhere, even places like Bermuda. However, I do not think Bermuda is looking for lumber brokers(d’oh).
I dunno. Seems lie the Philippines, Mexico and maybe the Us are too dangerous
In a few years, there will no longer be any Mexicans in Mexico or Africans in Africa. Might want to keep those two on your list.
BOl! About 12 years ago, there were two American/Mexican young women working in my wife's office. They convinced their parents and some siblings to drive across the border to go to Mexico City, their parents home city.
They got about two days over the border before they turned around and came back. They ran out of bribe money and were afraid that their big American SUVs would be stolen.
One of the young women said she and her sister felt like they were fresh meat being looked over in a butcher shop when the teenage federal-es confronted their small caravan with auto weapons to harass them and to collect bribes.

How many of them have restrictive gun laws?
