Word For The Day, Wednesday, October 8, 2014-- Pavlovian

;

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

Pavlovian [pav-loh-vee-uh n]

hear it pronounced

adjective

1. of, pertaining to, or characteristic of Pavlov or his work, especially of experiments in which he elicited predictable responses from laboratory animals.
2. (of a reaction or response) automatic; involuntary

Origin: 1931, from the theories, experiments, and methods of Russian physiologist Ivan Petrovich Pavlov (1849-1936), especially in connection with the salivary reflexes of dogs in response to mental stimulus of the sound of a bell.

Pavlov was a Russian physiologist who studied the digestive system of dogs, investigating the nervous control of salivation and the role of enzymes. His experiments showed that if a bell is rung whenever food is presented to a dog, the dog will eventually salivate when it hears the bell, even if no food is presented. This demonstration of what is known as a conditioned response prompted later scientific studies of human and animal behavior.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

I’m sorry. I was trying to do my homework and I thought about bacon. My Pavlovian response shorted out my keyboard and I had to steal a new one.

Whoops - I wrote mine before I saw your comment.

Seriously, Low info voters almost have a Pavlovian response to mindless talking points.

The democrats promise to give the low-info voters free stuff, and their response is inevitable—pull the lever next to D.

Obama’s face and antics seem
To be losing their appeal-
No huge pavlovian response
He’s not as big of a deal

Maybe it is all the golfing-
He has done it from day one
Now, the economy really sucks
Most resent his constant fun

He still has those devotees
Who believe he wears a crown
And don’t see that like Nixon
He will bring himself down...

Doors and windows never fit exactly, which I personally find frustrating-I keep assorted shims along with my tools in the 4Runner, because most guys are too confident and don’t carry them...

And are they done with your door yet?

"Whoops - I wrote mine before I saw your comment."

's okay. I only beat you by five hours.

I knew it would be a popular reaction. I typed it as quickly as I could.

I thought you had to work like nine days a week. Are you goofing off, or did you finally figure out how to fix the problem?

Oh, they had shims with them and used them. Door has turned out nice. Railing on the porch is next. I think we found the right one. Black metal...modern and simple to suit the house.

I had a dentist appointment and he pulled the tooth. I am in a bit of pain. His brother graduated with my oldest son and he remembered him. I can’t believe my son’s peers are now doing oral surgery for me. He was good. No pain at all in the office. Slight pain now that the novacaine has worn off. Enough that I am not enjoying the front door yet.

I still need to decide what color to paint it, as it just has primer on it. I am thinking just white, bc I can’t come up with a color. I will have to take pictures tomorrow, so you can chime in on a color.
