Who reads/follows Twitter? How would the airline know what one of the passengers says?

They are obviously monitoring the social media for passengers.

Who reads/follows Twitter? How would the airline know what one of the passengers says? In this age, I would think every major company has software monitoring Twitter and other feeds, kicking out items for human staff to check. If there's a problem affecting the company, it will likely be tweeted about.

She used the hashtag #JetBlue. That immediately makes whatever she wrote show up on the Twitter feed of people following that hashtag. That would likely be some of the airline’s PR people who probably then contacted the gate.
JMO obviously, but I do know if you use a hashtag that people follow, they are notified. Had she not used the hashtag, they may have noticed she was doing something but not known for sure. Or gate attendants could have seen her typing and checked #JetBlue on Twitter where they would see the tweet. You can go there now and search that #and see all the tweets using it.

I don’t buy this either. How would the pilot know what this woman is “tweeting”? Likely she’s a kook and was booted for her behavior.

Who reads twitter?
Tell me you're not serious. It's the 8th most popular site in the world according to Alexa. I can connect with people from every nation in the world with one tweet. Think about that.
Don't fall into the thinking that says: "I don't use it or understand it; therefore it must be irrelevant." This is just the tip of the iceberg of what's coming down the road with social media.

Who reads/follows Twitter? How would the airline know what one of the passengers says? My thought exactly. There appears to be some relevant information missing from the story.
