Not saying this is all you should have. I do have freeze dried items, enough for 3 years for my family, that remain unopened and should be good for about 20 years. The jar/pouch solution seemed the right application for hurricanes and the Ebola scenarios - Short to Mid term storage.
Water, don't forget water, that should be your first priority. If you use the pool shock tablets make sure they do not contain an algaecide. It will make you sick.
