In the early 80s I worked at a McDonald’s in Redlands, California.One of my duties was to take discarded food to the compactor after it was written off. I ate so much McDonald’s food out at the compactor that I’ve hated it since.
One of the perks of working in fast food. If your boss is cool, he/she will let you take the leftovers home. Many restaurants don't allow it because it might encourage employees to make too much food right before closing.
I had many a 1am snack of chicken and apple pies. Sometimes several pieces of chicken.
