A Caribbean Cruise Ship Can't Dock Because Of A Worker Who May Have Had Contact With The Ebola Virus

Thousands of passengers are trapped aboard a Carnival Magic cruise ship with a Dallas health worker who may have handled specimens from Thomas Eric Duncan, a Liberian patient with Ebola who later died at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital.

The US Centers for Disease Control alerted the cruise operator on Wednesday that a passenger on the ship was a lab supervisor at the hospital where Duncan was treated, USA Today reports.

The unnamed woman, who was traveling with her husband, has agreed to remain isolated in a cabin, the State Department said in statement, while the cruise line and the US government are working to bring the employee back to America.

The employee, who does not have a fever or shown any signs of illness, did not come into direct contact with Duncan but may have processed some of the patient's fluid samples, The New York Times said.

In a statement to USA Today, Carnival said that, "At no point in time has the individual exhibited any symptoms or signs of infection, and it has been 19 days since she was in the lab with the testing samples."

Although the health worker appears to be a very low risk for Ebola, the Belize Government will not allow the ship to dock, The Washington Post reports.

But I fully agree with the greater issue that almost no one involved in that medical CF should be allowed to travel or have contact with crowds until we are positive no transmission has taken place.

That's not going to happen. Then we would have to put a quarantine on anybody coming in here from the West African Hot Zone instead of just taking their temperature and waving them through.

It's like, a double standard or an Alice In Wonderland Rabbit Hole: you can't catch this on a bus but if you think you have Ebola don't travel on a bus beause you might spread it...

Regarding Obama’s policies on this, and considering Obama is liberal, it makes you think that liberalism is a very very different way of thinking. A very different way of looking at the world and an inability to apply common sense solutions to a problem such as we are facing. How did they know? Because (somehow) she told people on the ship and the ship requested port and probably had to state why.

Why is that particular item a big deal?

I am curious if she showed 0 symptoms, how it came about the ship knew about her. Did she get a twinge of conscience after boarding and decided to let them know just for the heck of it?
