I always buy Ground Sirloin. It just tastes better to me. $6.98 a pound.

Really, it seems like hamburger is becoming a luxury. And I am leaning toward more meatless meals and pasta.

Hamburger is a luxury. I went a year without buying any due to the price. Then really wanted some a few weeks ago. It was $17 for the 5 lb tube of 70%. That’s $3.40 lb. for 30% fat. I haven’t seen the 10 tubes for a couple of years so guess they’re too embarrassed to sell those. Imagine the fainting spells at the meat case over $34 “cheap” ground beef.

When cooking up a tube of ground beef, I drain it into a bowl. When it’s chilled the stock and fat separate so the stock can be dumped into a freezer container that canned veggies are drained into for future use in soups. Don’t pour all these down the drain. Why buy beef and veg stock when it’s already in your hands. Be frugal. Every little bit helps.

I’m not to the point of saving the fat for homemade soap but I have hard copy recipes ready when the time comes.
