To be honest, I think it should be a penalty to try to get the crowd to be ‘loud’ when the opposing team has the ball. Really bothers me when I see that and then when the home team has the ball, the scoreboard tells the fans to be quiet. Not sporting. I would like to see penalties for the rousing the crowd including the board operator and players on the field. Unsportsmanlike and fifteen yards. Repeated as many times as necessary until the crowd shuts up
It’s very sporting. Close to the only home field advantage that’s left in the NFL is the crowd’s ability to make signal calling harder for the visitors. If you’re going to make the crowd be quiet why even have one?
I believe that is part of what people call home field advantage.
You would penalize the team on the field for what a board operator does? How about fining the board operator instead?
“Repeated as many times as necessary until the crowd shuts up.”
Ah, here is a math question for you: Assuming that the crowd would never shut up then how many 15-yard penalties would it take to result in a ‘safety’ or a ‘touchdown’ in the other direction? ;-)
Having read all that you wrote on what the NFL should do... how about you just turn that garbage off. Screw football.
The best way to quiet the home crowd is to score on offense and smash em in the mouth when on defense.
Thats why its called home field advantage. The easiest way to shut up a rowdy opposing crowd is to score points on the home team. I have no problem with the fans participating in the game. Otherwise it should just be played on TV with no live attendance.
