The inaugural college football ranking has come out. The most surprising thing is Ole Miss at #4 and 'Bama currently left out. The game of the week is an elimination game as Auburn visits Oxford. Other games of interest are TCU visiting WVU, Arizona at UCLA, and Utah at ASU. Stanford is unranked but will be visiting Eugene where for the past several seasons Stanford has had Oregon's number.

Laughable to see TCU ranked above Baylor, whom they lost to. TCU is definitely the dirtiest program in the Big 12, and doesn’t need any national attention until they clean up their wanton acceptance of massive drug issues.

So many of those teams are still to play each other that the rankings won’t mean much until the season ends.

The teams in the major conferences are so equal even the best teams could end the season with 2-3 losses. Every weekend is a brutal fight for survival.

What I think is that 5 teams control their own destiny, Win out and they are in the play off. These are:

FSU
Miss St
Bama
Auburn
Ole Miss

And in this scenario, both Bama and Ole Miss can win out.

Only real surprise is seeing Ole Miss at #4 just a couple days after they really under-performed in Baton Rouge. It was close, but they couldn’t score twice, and the D let LSU march down the field when it counted most.

Notre Dame essentially was a ref’s whistle away from beating FSU in the Saturday night featured game just a couple weeks before, but didn’t receive the same love. Of course, Ole Miss beat Alabama, so they have more in the plus column, but I am surprised they treated a loss to a down LSU team with little regard. Fortunately, all this plays out in the SEC and at least one of these teams will be out of the top 4 before much longer.

Miss state loses one.

Ole Miss loses one.

Alabama has already lost one.

Auburn has already lost one.

Baylor beat TCU. TCU knocks off West Virginia. Baylor wins out and closes the season beating Kansas State. Surely the Bears would get in.
