We bought a new top loading GE last year and it’s horrible! Clothes just don’t get clean. One tip - detergent no longer has any type of phosphate in it. Add a tablespoon of TSP to your wash. It helps.

Make sure that it is real trisodium phosphate and not the substitute.

TSP is a God send! That stuff works miracles on anything!
