I think any shooter used to an AR or AK pistol grip are going to be able to control a shotgun with a pistol grip. If you are holding a shotgun by your side to shoot it you are doing it wrong.

Real world ballistic performance of a .410 from a pistol is anemic. While 45LC isn’t a bad round, an argument could be made that a modern 9mm is superior, and that ignores all of the more popular calibers that a .45LC doesn’t come close to matching. (.357mag, .357Sig, .40S&W, .45ACP) In short “The Judge” is a marketing gimmick and not a good defensive pistol choice but it’s a whole lot better than nothing.

He was asking for something to keep in the house for his wife. I agree, there are better carry pistols but, I would not sneeze at the judge for home and for walking the dog.

They have a bigger 28ga out now too.

I have mine loaded with 00 and standing up on the other side of my bed. So, if anyone breaks in, I roll over, grab the 88, kneel on the other side of the bed for some protection, push the safety off and I am ready to defend myself. The shot down the hallway is about 20 feet.

So, all my practice is at about 20 feet. Makes life simple.

Talking about pistol grip only. No stock.

Box-of-Truth with a shotgun and buckshot. Will go through many layers of sheetrock.

They also talk about using birdshot as a defense load. Unless you are attacked by birds, it isn’t good.

The shotgun attack at the SPU campus in Seattle last spring - the guy used a shotgun. It was obviously birdshot. He killed the first student by walking up behind him and putting the barrel to the base of his head.

Other students were shot in the chest and were able to walk to the ambulance. Photos with their shirts off/torn and a big red splotchy area where all the little pellets had hit. (Thank goodness the shooter was ignorant of ballistics).

Birdshot might cause someone to run - but it won’t stop them if they are intent on coming at you. (Drugged up, now REALLY mad at you, etc.)

I think thats a bit far down the road from the conversation. First the odds anyone will ever use a weapon for defense in the home is a stretch. Second, as long as the home defender shoots in accordance with the appropriate state laws, this would go no further than a boilerplate grand jury and not true bill. A GJ comes back with a true bill for a homicide, then there was certainly something badly wrong with the shoot. There are several other lower options of wrongful death before homicide, manslaughter is one of them. The pistol grip will have little to do with the act of getting to a charge of homicide. Sorry, I don’t do video games, I do real life. Responsibility comes with firearm ownership, part is knowing the degree which one can use deadly force in their state. A personal choice of a pistol grip, laser site, tritium or what shotgun round was used is immaterial if lethal force is used within the legal parameters.

I think umgud meant pistol grip only...I agree about that option...But pistol grip with butt stock is a good combo, especially for ladies with smaller hands...

OK then. Here you go.

You are correct that none of the items you mentioned make a legal difference, but they can make a factual difference when it comes to charging decisions. If that happens you may beat the rap, but you won't beat the ride.

OTOH, the 229 . 40, 14+1, trigicon and crimson trace enabled, is always at my side, as is my blue healer.

Hope you are well.

Nice weapon system. I am aware of the Saiga, but haven’t seen this XTS. Be kinda cool to have. I had a Yugoslav AK-47 with rails, fore grip and adjustable stock in Iraq that looked very similar in whistles and bells. It was used a couple times with result and no factual complaints.. Perhaps, just perhaps there is some credence to your words here. I think much depends on the facts of an incident. Homeowner, inside his or her home, forcible entry, imminent fear of serious physical injury or death and all that other legal stuff. Prior criminal history of the one who achieved room temp (Likely has a history by stats) and then how the cops write up the incident and how that police report is interpreted by the D. A. or the deputy D.A. who intakes this for oversight. If anything unusual exists in the report, autopsy and all that it could lead to D.A. pushing a grand-jury for a true bill in some crime. How liberal the D.A. is a matter of location. Maybe the region where you hang your hat is pretty anti gun? I was operating in the Middle-East during Bush last term. Went back to the Middle-East prior to “the one” coming to office, only been in the US less than 30 days on two occasions since. SO...perhaps Alice in the looking glass has arrived in the US while I was gone and it is a different and much more liberal and self defense biased world. Reads that way, but haven’t been Onconus for so long and can’t judge from face value. I will say that if I had a intrusion, the first weapon I get my hands on is the weapon of choice of the day. Whether a pistol grip 500 or pidgin grade Beretta over-under (Like Obama faked in the photo)
