Relative to the rest of the state, Virginia Beach hasn't changed much at all politically since the 1970s. It routinely votes 1% to 5% more Republican than the state as a whole and still does.

Fairfax, on the other hand, actually voted even more Republican than the rest of the state (in presidential elections) up through 2000, then went hard left.

In state-level elections Fairfax, unlike Va. Beach, has been dead red (Commie red) for a long time and is getting worse lately.

But the mayors who have been elected by Va Beach have been dyed in the wool limbs...Oberndorf was a big lib and Sessoms who purported to be a Pub publicly screwed Cooch by endorsing McAwful and this time, Warner...
