It’s unlikely to be Philip, who was presumably buried in Aegae (Verghina) whether or not the tomb discovered in the 1970s is his. Amphipolis was not historically part of Macedonia but was conquered by Philip II. It was originally an Athenian colony (established in 437 B.C.) but revolted in 424/3 and was never again subject to Athens (until the 20th century). Thucydides the historian was exiled because, as general, he failed to prevent the revolt.
