“Is Harvard a public university. If not they can let in who they want.”

Not if they accept Federal money, which they do for scholarships.

Harvard had billions in endowments and we give them tax money?

When I’m president, I’ll spend entire first term cutting the budget

Good. Asians should sue Harvard into oblivion. This lawsuit is long overdue.

No, I'm not Asian.

It’s exactly the same thing. But is society honestly prepared to accept a Harvard that is 50 % Chinese (not just, ‘Asian’) ?

I think 50 % of National Merit Semifinalists are Chinese. Maybe I’m wrong.

Harvard's discrimination might be racially motivated but my friend thought if Harvard went strictly by qualifications they would have so many Orientals in the school it would affect the white alumni donations.

Assuming that Harvard officials believe the fake transcripts and phony credentials of asian applicants. Which they do.

It seems like nowhere has a purely merit based system anymore.

Right. Merit is not how communist societies and institutions work. In the Soviet union, they routinely put morons in charge of engineering projects. While the most qualified found a place at the bottom making coffee. It makes sense to the communist mind.

GOOD! Enough of this discrimination against Caucasian and Asians. That’s what it’s been right? Refusing entrance to some based on the color of their skin and allowing others in precisely because of theirs. How do they even spin that anymore?

It’s like rewarding Johnny with cake every week for doing poorly in school (after all it’s not his fault he’s dumb) and straight A Susie gets told she needs to go out and get an after school job to help with the cake fund for Johnny, and then poor Susie’s grades fall because she’s working instead of doing homework. No unfairness there huh? And Susie won’t harbor any resentment will she?

Your analogy describes things perfectly. I see variations of this all the time. Young A-students in grade schooll--they must endure idiotic behavior of the straight D/F-students, and they must endure idiotic activities designed to be suitable for the mentality of the D/F-students, since there are so many of them. And at the end of the day, or week, the A-student is shipped off somewhere to a math/science competition so that he/she can bring home a prize and increase the reputation of the school. While the D/F morons are busy playing ping-pong or basically doing nothing.

Harvard should have their own entrance exams to sort out the wheat from the chaff. -Tom

The biggest beneficiaries of affirmative action at Harvard and other elite schools are not blacks, Hispanics, LGBTs, or the handicapped; but rather, they are legatees of alumni, the political elite, and the one percenters who have contributed or are likely to contribute their power, prestige, and wealth to the school. Indeed, I suspect that Bush, Gore, and the Kennedy clan went to Ivy League schools, not because of their brilliance, but because of their family connections. And while Obama is not technically a Harvard legatee, he would not have gotten into Columbia or Harvard Law, even under a race-based affirmative action program, if not for well-connected, wealthy Arabs lobbying on his behalf.
