Some such as William Shatner are able to rejuvenate and even reinvent themselves.
Shatner is apparently smart about money, reportedly doing the early priceline commercials for stock in the company in lieu of cash, and wound up with many millions from that. Some apparently question how much he really made on that deal, however, if you look at priceline now, it's market cap is over $60 billion with a B, leaving room for many to make a lot of money on it over the years. It's up well over 400% in the past 5 years, however it's 95% owned by institutional investors.

Shatner put his money where his mouth is. Being compensated in stock for his role as company spokesman, at a time when Priceline was not nearly so well known and much smaller, could have resulted in very little reward for him. That Shatner instead reaped something of a windfall due to the success of Priceline afterwards speaks very well of their decision to bring him on as spokesman. He no doubt played a role in that success. He took a personal risk and it paid off, not just for himself but for the company. They all won.
