will say the worst Christmas song ever is John Lennon's "Imagine". One can question if "Imagine" is a Christmas song but for some reason radio stations include that song in their Christmas line up. I wonder which program director took a song that embraces Communism and Atheism and decided that was appropriate to play alongside Silent Night.

False. Any song that has Phil Collins on the drums has to be given the benefit of the doubt.

John Lennon and Yoko Ono on “So This is Christmas” has got to be the worst Christmas song ever. War is over? Lame!

You might be thinking of “ Happy Xmas War is over “.

Horrid bit of smug caterwauling.

Jingle Bell Rock makes me want to punch someone.

Santa Baby is just awkward.

Baby It’s Cold Outside is just goofy.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland, and that song about the kid wanting shoes also mages me gag.

Honestly I cant listen to anything that was made after 1900. It just gets more campy and secular. And the newer the song, the more annoying jingly bells in the background, and the more people need to yell out the notes to make up for the emptiness of the lyrics.

They should’ve done “Yoko Got Run Over by a Reindeer.”

Bono’s song is bad because it does not tell the impoverished Third World what it really needs to hear: Slash taxes, deregulate your economies and tell your people to get to work instead of waiting for handouts from the West.

I challenged our local station that goes Christmas after T-giving on the Lennon version of Imagine a couple of years back...haven’t heard it since...however...

I heard some newer version of it yesterday...gonna light ‘em up over that today.

A song that starts out with “imagine no religion”...sure, that’s a Christmas song. /s

Every year, I think that the awfulness comes in part from the refreshed shock of dreadful lyrics I’ve not heard in 11 months.

That's how I feel about Christmas music in general.

Sometimes it’s not the lyrics or the melody that offends - but the performer makes you mute the radio. Anything recorded by Bruce Springsteen makes me click ahead to the next tune on the Pandora holiday channel.

The worst Christmas song actually isn’t about Christmas, but it comes out around the holiday season. It’s a good tension breaker when everybody is feeling moody.

“Teddy Bear”, by Red Sovine.

Truckers, CB radio, a paraplegic boy whose father has died, with recited lyrics by Red Sovine, who sounds like an old man with a broken voice, about ready to start crying.

The “Teddy Bear challenge” is to listen to it without wanting to cry.

I could get behind this. Because nothing else says "Christmas Spirit" like Bono yelling "TONIGHT THANK GOD IT'S THEM, INSTEAD OF YOOOUUUUUUU".

I hate this song.

Paul McCartney's vapid "Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time" would be a close second, but at least it's a happy tune and not an angry one.

Nope, it’s Last Christmas. My kids found out how much I hate that song and of course, found about 15 versions of it to put to disk. I was literally tied to a chair last year and forced to hear the entire thing.

Brenda Lee was a fine artist, but the epileptic fit at the end of “Rockin’ Around Christmas Tree” would always drive me crazy…

The worst one that I know of is “Dem Revolutionär Jesus zum Geburtstag” (To the revolutionary Jesus on his birthday). This Communist Christmas carol is sung by Ernst Busch, a hardcore Stalinist balladeer whose songs include hymns to Stalin and to the Communist regime in East Germany. The tune to which the lyrics are set sounds like it might have ripped of from some old Lutheran hymn.

You can listen to the song here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y954_nX-cWA

Here are the words in English:

Two thousand years have almost passed
since you left the world;
You sacrificial lamb of life!

You gave the poor their God.
You suffered ridicule from the rich.
You did it in vain!

You saw violence and police.
You wanted universal freedom and peace on earth.
You knew misery and wished all people well,
So all would be more beautiful!

You were a revolutionary
And you made life difficult
For the corrupt and the educated elite.

You championed the freedom of the people,
Though they had no use for you,
You came to the fore.

You fought bravely against them
And against the state and industry
And the entire pack.

Until you were betrayed anc caught,
Judicially murdered, without further ado.
It was just like today.

The people were not smart.
Least of all, the Christians,
Despite wringing hands

Your love was in vain.
You died for nothing.
And everything remained the same.
