There’s another one on the other side of the Galaxy.

That depends on the number of women in the car. I’ve found that when I drive long distances for every 8 hours of driving it is +1 hour for the first woman and an additional 1/2 hour per additional woman/girl for every 8 hours (assuming a speed of 65 mph). Times vary by mpg and bladder size but within control limits.

T=D/V, where D=2*pi*432million miles=2.7billion miles.

So T=2.7billion miles/70mph = 38571428.6 hours = ~4,400 years

And believe it or not, the Sun is larger than about 75% of all the stars out there. But it’s just a speck compared to this thing, or as cripplecreek pointed out, compared to a red hypergiant.

...It’s big and black and inky,
And we are small and dinky,
It’s a big universe and we’re not.

No doubt a future supernova leading to a black hole. Hope the spin axis is pointed somewhere else, as a directional jet of gamma is a possibility. Eta Carinae and WR 104 are potential threats to Earth.

Better than 80% of the stars in the universe are red dwarfs and none of those can be seen with the unaided eye from earth despite several being within 10 light years of earth.

Red dwarfs last a long time. Its believed that they can last as long as a trillion years or more.

About 5100 years at 60 mph.

Which is why I want man eventually to move to a planet orbiting a red dwarf, if we can find a habitable planet circling one!

I'm addicted to this universe simulator. Most of the habitable planets are around red dwarfs. Most of them are tidally locked but I think if there's enough deep water moving heat around the could have habitable zones.

Space engine

Thanks. I think I tried Space Engine a couple of weeks ago and couldn't get it to work. I'm very interested. So I'll try it again.

You see Gilster's latest on Mirage Earths? Check it out. Discouraging.

There are many, many of these things in the universe, including many in our Galaxy. One of the closest is Rigel, at a distance of 800 or 900 ly. Sounds like a safe distance when it goes supernova, but I could be wrong. I've seen articles about how far you have to be to be safe when they explode, but don't remember what that distance is exactly. Could probably find it with some searching. But I do remember they have an extraordinary reach, and you don't want to be anywhere close to one when it goes off.
