I live in Lakeway which is a suburb, more or less, of Austin. There’s no line to cross between the two, they just blend together.
I have Second Amendment Sisters magnetic signs on both front car doors. (I get both a lot of thumbs up signals and frowns for these signs>)
Twice, I’ve been pulled over by Austin police who only wanted to ask about our organization—both times, I was shocked! They could not have been nicer, nor more supportive.

“I dont see many public phones these days.”
Use one of those Wal-Mart cell phones that are untraceable.

“Nuke the site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.”
The ‘site’ being “Wash, D.C......while all ‘officials’ are sitting comfortably at their desks or in session”? ;-)

I hope you are correct, and they are being genuinely curious and friendly, for your sake.

But what Americans should be fearful about isnt the likes of McQuilliams, but rather the response by Acevedo on how to go about countering these perceived threats.
When a deranged ex-Marine named Whitman went up the clock tower in Austin one day in 1966 and started shooting people (he had a brain tumor and was
non compos; and he had killed some of his family before he went on his rampage), armed civilians took rifles out of their cars and trucks and returned fire, forcing Whitman to keep his head down.
Before the people responded to his gunfire, Whitman killed something like 16 people. After they started shooting back, he didn't kill another person, try as he might. The end came when two Austin patrolmen backed up by a civilian armed with a shotgun went up to the top of the tower to take Whitman on. The policemen killed him.

That didnt use to mean EBT cards, health care, and phones. And black boxes in your car that rat you out in an accident and secretly talk to the Mothership via roadside IFF systems (EZ Pass, K-Pass, bla bla bla).

That's because it is, in some ways. Texas has a serious nanny state problem. Not so much as you would find elsewhere, but remember that Texas has two political parties now -- Communists running the 'Rats around, and "good government" RiNO's running the State.
