Forgoing certain daily pleasures for a deferred grand pleasure is sometimes necessary. But giving up all daily pleasures for the one big pleasure can have a deflating effect if The Big Pleasure turns out to be a dud.
I love going out to eat, so we do it often but I also have no interest in going on vacation. I have many friends who scrimp all year and then spend $1000s for one week of family vacation. I would rather go out to eat a couple of times a week and have a relaxing meal with family or friends. It does help that I live in FL and feel like I am on a staycation most of the time.
It’s all about balance.
I have no interest in living a monk-like life - if I did, I’d be a monk.
I equally have no interest in living like the Kardashians, high on the hog at all times.
I want to enjoy life now AND put enough away for a relatively comfy retirement. It can be done.

One can choose to “exist” or “live”...
I will do without certain things, but there are “comforts” in the world that bring a certain amount of pleasure/enjoyment to folks.
I pretty much quit eating out for various reasons, cost being one...but it helps to support other comforts.
I will not do without my occasional nip of Jack...it is a guilty pleasure to enjoy a good whiskey.
