I kind of preferred it when Lego sets weren't so "goal oriented."

Time was, you could join those little bits of grossly-overpriced plastic into a form that you chose.

Now Legos is all about, "Here, build THIS SPECIFIC THING."

I agree with you, and have you seen the prices of those kits? They are extremely expensive. Maybe they are really more for adults.
