The blaze, which broke out in the middle of the night, all but obliterated a seven-story building of the Da Vinci apartment complex and caused extensive damage to the adjacent 110 Freeway and city buildings. It took 250 firefighters an hour and half to put out the flames that rose to heights taller than many downtown buildings. The total damage was estimated to be in the tens of millions of dollars.

A giant monstrosity surrounded by fire stations burns down in the middle of the night was arson? What a shocker this is....

Looking at the photos of the fire, I must say that I was unaware that buildings under construction could burn that way. Seems likely that this was more than a careless motorist and a tossed marlboro.
Building under construction catches fire in the dead of night. Said fire is large enough and hot enough to damage a nearby freeway even with a fire station just a stone’s throw away.....
I wonder what was the ATF’s first clue.
Owned by whom? What was its financial condition; in the red or in the black? Was it insured?
Arson? In LA no way!
LA? Arson? The NORKs did it. Something about a movie.
Not much gets by those L.A. fellows dose it. I was going to call the morning of the fire and tell the LAFD it was arson. Felt it would be better to let them have a few weeks to figure it out on their own.

So they were building that place and it had no parking garage? The one on the other side of the freeway has parking for every unit.
Crazy, huh? All the high-density housing in many NW cities are designed to force people onto bus rapid transit, light rail, etc. and encourage biking & alternative transportation.
That includes either severely limiting parking or eliminating it altogether.
It’s more about squeezing more tax base per sq. mile than anything, but the anti-car agenda can’t be ignored.
The one under construction probably does as well.

A report on the project suggests it has 3 levels of subterranean parking to serve the apartments and 2 stories of retail at the ground level.
I’m wondering if the ratio of parking to apartment-dwellers is less than 1:2...in the NW it’s much, much less than that.
