The depopulation of Detroit over the past 45 years is the best thing to happen to the city, and it has gotten to the point where investors can indeed pick up land on the cheap and not have a spiteful city government to get in its way.

50 years of democrat control vs less than 4 years of GOP control of the city provide a pretty astounding contrast. Sure there are still some rough neighborhoods but there are a lot of good neighborhoods that are getting better. GOP control of the state has also led all Michigan cities to be among the freest around.
