Security chiefs have taken the dramatic step of withdrawing Royal Guards from their high-profile posts outside palaces amid mounting fears of lone wolf terrorist attacks. Elite soldiers of the Queens Guard have pulled back from public positions at many landmarks in response to possible threats from Islamic extremists. For the first time since the height of the IRAs terror campaign, the soldiers are also no longer allowed on sentry duty alone, and are now accompanied by armed police

It’s the muslims who should be in retreat, not the guards!
Wonder if the guard’s weapon is loaded or is it for show?
"The soldiers currently performing ceremonial duties outside the Royal palaces are drawn from the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, F Company of the Scots Guards and 7 Company of the Coldstream Guards. These Guardsmen carry rifles equipped with bayonets but as a rule their rifles are not loaded with live ammunition. The Guardsmen may carry up to six rounds in a belt pouch and may load their rifles in event of a terrorist attack, but that would take valuable time.
Thanks. Some websites don’t load too well on the phone. The Barney Fife method is employed. Can’t trust a trained soldier with a loaded weapon apparently.
Interesting development.
Obama made the Marines remove the bolts from their M14 rifles at the last inauguration.
1000 years of civilization, horrible food, and bad teeth reaches its inglorious end. Put a fork in England, it’s done.
Wow. 6 whole rounds of ammunition.
They’re not lone wolfs since they’re following the directives of other muzzies.
I say double the guard and make sure they have live ammo.
Here is a thought, how about arming the Queen’s Guard? They do have assault rifles after all and they are trained to use them.
Coward!
I think I vaguely remember that.
I’ll bet the rifles carried by the Palace Guard have been deactivated & welded shut, just in case a muzzie kills a Guard in order to steal it.
There should be plainclothesmen circulating around the Palace with authority to kill anyone who attacks a Guard.
I scratch my balding head in wonder at the intelligence of disarming guards. Disarmed guards need armed police to guard them. It’s just like government to exercise such nonsense.
It looks funny to have a policeman protecting a trained soldier holding a rifle, but it also tells a story about civil law enforcement vs martial law or military occupation. In some ways, it’s not such an absurd inmate. Outside the country, you deploy troops. Domestically, order is maintained by civilian police. I can live with that.
Either way, a solitary sentry in a public place is an easy target. Makes sense to move them back.
Indeed. If I couldn’t trust the Marines, who as a group are some of the most honorable men on the planet-then I’d just leave the Office of President.
Are US Secret Service agents considered police?
