Okay. I love seeing my favorite bands in concert. The older I get, the less I get out to shows. It would be great if concerts started at 4pm, instead of 10pm. That said, here is my short list.

Elbow
Jeff Tweedy
Bonnie Prince Billy
EmmyLou Harris
Hiss Golden Messenger
Robbie Fulks
Kieran Kane, Kevin Welch and Fats Kaplan

I paid for a lot of shows but didn’t go. That’s a parent for ya.

Rockstar Mayhem fest

Aftershock fest

Coheed and Cambria two times

And a zillion others... Made my sons very happy. Mostly they went together, which was cool.

He was great, all acoustic, just him and a guy who was basically a one man band, with some funny sort of drum-panel thing and a guitar.

He did all his hits, but sadly the show was in April, so no “Is that you, Santa Claus?” which I love.

“I went to see B.B. King back in April. Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing concert. His backup band really carried the show. He’s in his late 80s now, and nowhere near the performer he was in his prime. (The main reason I went to the show was because I figured it might be my last chance to see him perform.) He had to be helped onto the stage, and they brought out a wheelchair for him when the show ended. At one point, he started to do a song he had done a few minutes earlier, and the band stopped him. He really shouldn’t be touring anymore. It was pretty sad.”

I went to the Coach House, in San Juan Capistrano, California in the early 1990s to see B.B. King. It was advertised as his last tour of live performances, as he was turning 65 years old.

It was a good performance, and I’m glad we saw him. His opening act was Leon Russell, who was not treated well by age (much younger than King).

Uriah Heep he did see, he thinks, but the other two now.

He tells me he saw BB King open for Led Zepplin and after Zepplin’s encore the crowd chanted until BB King came back on.
