Stuart Scott, a longtime anchor at ESPN, died Sunday morning at the age of 49.

Among the features of the new ESPN studio in Bristol is a wall of catchphrases made famous by on-air talent over the years. An amazing nine of them belong to one man -- from his signature "Boo-Yah!" to "As cool as the other side of the pillow" to "He must be the bus driver cuz he was takin' him to school."

I am almost sure “cool as the other side of the pillow” was actually used in a song back in the 60’s/70’s but I can’t recall which one right now.

I have basically stopped watching ESPN unless they take a Cards game, I watch during the playoffs/ World Series and I might catch Baseball Tonight if nothing else is on and I remember. I used to watch it most of the day.

I actually liked Stuart. I liked most of them as long as the stuck to sports. Some were just too annoying to ever like.

That would be true if entertainment was just that and left as it is. Whether you want to admit it or not, the acceptance of declining standards and normalization of pop culture into every day life has not been positive on society.

The Teleprompter-reader-in-chief badly wants a job at ESPN. An opening like this doesn’t happen often. He should phone in his POTUS resignation immediately from the golf course in Hawaii.

You are thinking of Stephen A. Smith.

He’s been on Hannity and Mark Levin.

I hear you, My dad died at 55. I am now 7 years older than he was when he died.

That is hard to wrap you head around.

Sorry, but I am not going to even partially fault Stuart Scott for the decline of society. Using a few perfectly clean slang words on television isn’t hurting anyone.

May he rest in peace. He seemed to be one of the genuinely good guys...gone way to young.

His acceptance speech at the JimmyV Award was inspiring. He spoke to the affect that it’s not that cancer beats you when you die, it’s how you lived in the time you had. It was moving, inspirational and heartfelt.

By all accounts he was a doting dad to his two teenage daughters. I think I’m recalling this correctly, but he even joined them in their dance recital of the Nutcracker several Christmases ago. (I have 4 sons and ESPN is on 24/7 here...I “learn” a lot of sports info).

I also recall that his cancer was discovered during routine Appendectomy surgery (he was to do the studio commentary on a SNF or MNF game that the Steelers were playing in. The other guys were “on him” but then the tone of their comments changed from razzing to dead on serious get well wishes).

May he rest in Eternal Peace and may the Perpetual Light shine upon him.

Heywood Hale Broun stlyed sports reporters are a thing of the past. I enjoyed his commentary. I enjoyed Scott’s style too.

“Don’t know why people have to go onto threads and tell people they aren’t interested.”

Ditto - as if anyone cares what they don’t know about or aren’t interested in.

“Boo-yah” is a slang term originally used by gangs to mimic the sound a shotgun makes.

I always thought it was “ooo-rah!” for Marines, and “hu-aa” for Army, both evidently after my time in the latter.

The fault is never with the individual. It’s the general acceptance by masses that are responsible for decline. The influence of arts and entertainment are frequently discussed here. The incrementalism always seems harmless and OK. One day you look around and wonder what happened. Don’t be surprised when everyone is just speaking leet one day because OMG and LOL are part of the language now.
