Yes. Somewhat disappointing, I thought. I prefer to remember him walking into the distance. (Interesting that his death as a result of a car crash is foreshadowed in the original movie when the out-of-control oxcart almost takes him out.)
“Grave of the Fireflies” by the great Studio Ghibli is an animated feature that follows the lives of a Japanese brother and sister struggling to survive in the final months of World War II. By the end I was a mess. Probably the saddest movie I’ve ever seen, but excellently done.
The ending of “The Lives of Others” when Wiesler is in the book store, when he’s asked “Is this a gift for someone”, and he replies, “No, it’s for me.”
A perfect ending, and it got me, especially knowing the actor had died soon after filming made it all the more poignant.
What are ya? Some kinda walker-lover?!
“The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.”
Also “Kings Row”.
“Where’s the rest of me?”
And a great book.
I watched it, but wished they didn’t do it. I guess the one redeeming thing about it was it did tell us more about Patton’s relationship with his wife.
The Babe Ruth Story, when he’s in the hospital and the crowd outside is holding a vigil, and then here goes “Take me out to the ball game”. I don’t care if critics think it’s crap. Armageddon and Old Yeller. Oh, and Greyfriars Bobby.
The old 1950s partially black and white Christmas film The Littlest Angel which was shown in public elementary schools in the Deep South in the 1960s
First movie to make me misty eyed
When the little angel goes back to earth to get a present for baby Jesus in heaven cause he has nothing like grown Angels
And he hears his mom in the kitchen crying.....Still sad over him
Damn....still emo today even pushing Six Oh
Sophie Scholl - The Final Days
PEE WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE
When the little guy gets his precious bike back. Ride, Pee Wee, ride like the wind!
I probably cried 50 years ago when Mrs. Peel drove away with her long-lost husband leaving Steed to deal with that dimwit, Tara King.
I’ve seen all but 2 of the movies in the list, but the one that is the most well done and hardest to watch is “Grave of the Fireflies”. It’s a cartoon, but will make anyone cry.
I cried when they charged me $12.50 to get into the theater for “Guardians of the Galaxy”.
Thanks!
I am glad I am not he only guy that teared up at Cars.
UP is another.
Your post reminded me of The Sandlot. Not that there were any sad moments (that I can remember), but when I watched it with my kid I found myself getting emotional because he was enjoying it so much and it brought me back to a time in my life when I didn’t have a care in the world and would play baseball and football endlessly with my buddies. A time that none of us will sadly ever see again.
I have seen a few grown men & teenage boys tear up in Armageddon.
If home is Montana, we lived in Billings for 7 years where I became familiar with Norman Maclean and other Montana writer/artists. A great place to be then but understand Hollywood has discovered Paradise Valley etc. and bought up a lot of rural property there.
