The USS Nevada (BB-36) was NOT sunk. Her crew (damn near alone among the BBs and I blame the Captains) fought professionally, like hell to get her underway and beach herself and as a result was back in the war and killing Japanese when we re-took Attu in 1943.

If you gotta sink, sink in water shallow enough that you can be re-floated and repaired, like NEVADA, WEST VIRGINIA and CALIFORNIA all were.
