In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
apricate (AP-ri-kayt) verb
verb intr.: To bask in the sun.
verb tr.: To expose to the sun.
Example sentence:
I was also biting into that part of his body that must have been fairer than the rest because it never apricated.
--André Aciman; Call Me by Your Name; Picador; 2007
Etymology:
From Latin apricari (to bask in the sun). Earliest documented use: 1691. Despite a similar spelling, the word apricot has a different origin. Its from Latin praecox (early-ripening).
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
A+ for you! Even though you tried to make a beach ugly...
It’s sunny here. Almost put my sunglasses on in the car.
Maybe you need some kinesio tape.
Is it also snowy?
Nope. No precipitation until Sunday or Monday. Still a little bit of ice and snow on the ground. Saturday is supposed to go to 40.
Thank you! It is 52 here, and overcast now-so I guess it won’t get any warmer, but at least the sun heated things up-I’m going to light the grill and have chicken legs for dinner, along with the last of the fresh cauliflower I have. Husky girl got right underfoot when I took the chicken out of the fridge to season-chicken is her favorite meat.
I saw 3 people on the trail by the river while hiking at 7, and several deer-but no dogs. I did notice that the huge gray mastiff in a neighbor’s back yard has docked ears-I’ve never seen one with docked ears out here-I think that is a cruel thing to do anyway, but that is just me...
Imagine the strain with my 6+ : )
35 today but going up to 41 tomorrow. I have coq au vin in the crockpot for the son inlaws BDAY dinner smells wonderful but I’ll be having steak and salad. Carb meal for the rest of them with mashed potatoes and xsboy is bringing home some delicious rolls from a bakery near his ofc and xshub is in charge of getting the BDAY cake. His bday was actually on tues but this was our first chance for a family dinner this week.
I was pleased with how everything transferred to the new phone. Even my little scratch pad notes. ICloud.
You are making us all hungry! Happy birthday to the Flyers fan!
Yes updating phones has become quite painless. I’ve never had a problem with anything transferring. Now switching to android might be problematic, but I’m not likely to.
Thanks! Happily they lost last night : )
Happy birthday to your SIL-I love coq au vin, but won’t make it just for myself.
When I got home from work I turned on Fox news to see what had gone on in the world this morning. There was a female diet expert MD talking about how the best diet for losing, and to maintain a healthy weight was a very low carb one, and that it was better nutrition than a diet dominated by grains and other starch rather than protein. I was really glad to hear that-it just goes to show that the “new” supposedly healthy plate pushed by the govt is barely better than the unhealthy food pyramid it replaced...
Moochelle’s school
Lunch slop!
Yes Coq au vin requires a fair amount of work, i prepped it last night and had xsbaby put the crockpot on around lunchtime. He’s an appreciative eater so I enjoyed making it for him. Thanks!
I have that book-I’ve read it several times-and there is another more recent book about Katherine Swynford that is good, too-but I don’t remember the name of it.
I ordered a new copy of Beloved Exile-my old copy came apart in three pieces when I took it out to read again, so I’m reading Jack Whyte’s The Singing Sword instead.
That’s her mission-teaching your kids to eat a diet low in proper nutrients from the gitgo...
Diet shake. I want real food for dinner, though. Not sure what yet.
Now, I’m really hankering for something good for dinner. Steak and salad sound good.
