[Canada] Education Minister: Catholic schools will be required to teach new sex ed program

Ontario Catholic parents hoping their children attending a Catholic school will be spared an explicit sex-education curriculum that allegedly will teach their children about masturbation, to question their sexual identity as male or female, and about diverse family structures are out of luck.

Education Minister Liz Sandals stated on TVO’s The Agenda yesterday that Catholic schools will not be able to opt out of the curriculum being forced upon Ontario’s schools by lesbian Premier, Kathleen Wynne.

“There is one curriculum document, and it’s our expectation that all four systems [English and French Catholic, English and French public] will be using the same curriculum document,” she said.

Sandals said that while the Catholic school system will be able to provide “commentary” on the government-mandated sex-ed through its own family life program, it won’t be allowed to change anything and must “deliver” the sex-ed as written.

If the curriculum is anything like its forerunner, shelved in 2010 after parental backlash, it will likely contain items contrary to Catholic sexual and moral teaching, such as approval of masturbation, anal and oral sex, homosexuality, and contraception.

Sandals defended the move to roll out the sex-ed for the 2015/16 school year, saying “it’s the right time to do it for the kids, because the kids need the information.”

When host Steve Paikin asked Sandals directly to respond to concerns that the curriculum would “actively encourage 12 year olds to masturbate as one way of learning about your body and teach eight year olds that being male or female is merely a social construct,” she did not deny that the curriculum contained these components. Sandals instead deflected the question, saying that such components would be included in the teacher’s aid as a “suitable response” if kids were to ask questions on the topic.

At a few points during the interview, Sandals spoke of the sex-ed program as providing children with “good, accurate information” about sex without saying from what perspective the information was judged to be ‘good’ and ‘accurate.’

The abortion giant Planned Parenthood has a very different notion of what makes “good” sex-ed when compared to the Catholic Church. For instance, while Planned Parenthood holds that killing the pre-born child by abortion in the name of ‘reproductive rights’ is a socially good and acceptable action, the Catholic Church holds that abortion is always and everywhere wrong since it destroys a human being. It can never be justified.

Sandals also confirmed that the curriculum would teach children about what it means to give ‘consent’ to sex.

“We don’t just need to talk about healthy relationships, we need to make it crystal clear and explicit that informed consent is required [before engaging in sexual activity], and we need both the boys and the girls to get the same information,” she said.

LifeSiteNews reported earlier this week about critics reacting to teaching young children to give consent in a curriculum they say has been hijacked by activists with a homosexual agenda.

Dr. Judith Reisman, a professor at Liberty University School of Law, told LifeSiteNews at that time that “pedosadists” within the homosexual movement are moving to “lower the age of consent and to teach children that it is OK for them to consent to having sex with adults.”

“The whole issue is to make children available for sex earlier. The younger the child can give consent, the quicker you can have sex with them that is legal,” she said.

This is NOT “providing information”. This is pure and unadulterated propaganda and indoctrination. Western Civilization is rotting away from within. It is done for.

Canada has been working on shutting down the Catholic Church since Wolfe walked the Plains of Abraham. The Communist takeover of Canada were just the coupe de ville, or whatever they call it up there. But these are weak-kneed wussy weenies: they would never dare mess with with the - frankly, exploding - number of Muslim schools in Canada. Which is why Canada will be just like Marseilles in 20 years.

Believe it or not, Mr. Paikin, who hosts that show, is really quite a great interviewer. He’s a leftie, yes, but just about as fair-minded as they come.

Kids need information about how to masturbate in Canada? Are Canadian teens really that developmentally challenged?

Put it in a video, speed it up so fast that it can’t be comprehended. There, delivered in its entirety as required in less than 30 seconds, which leaves plenty of time for the school to teach it’s own curriculum.

Yes - I remember years ago when the Catholic schools were private, as in no government funding.

As soon as they accepted that money, it was eventually going to be game over. If you dance to the music, you have to pay the piper.

I can’t defend this monstrosity. This is the leader of my province, sadly.

So many in Ontario are disgusted by this, but our votes are always outnumbered by the cities. It’s Toronto that gives us horrible people like this.

Can they homeschool in Canuckistan?

In any case, this is at least another reason to NOT take gummint money. That’s the nexus here. These “Catholic” schools aren’t really private the way Catholic schools in these United States are.

The thing is, not taking the money wouldn’t necessarily help.

I teach in a Catholic secondary school in Australia. Our system doesn’t work in quite the way Canada’s does, but private schools (including Catholic schools) in Australia do get a degree of government funding.

And we get do get told sometimes there are certain things that the government requires us to teach.

But it’s virtually never linked to funding. We could refuse to accept the funding - and we’d still be forced to teach these things.

The problem is if governments want to interfere, it doesn’t have to be tied to funding. They have the power.

So we take the money - and that makes private schooling more accessible here. A third of all Australian children are in private schools. And that also leads to major improvements in the state school system, because they don’t come close to having a monopoly. Parents have more choice and they use it.

Governments can make mandates without providing money.

That’s what happened here in Australia.

Catholic schools started to be compelled in the 1950s to toe the government line on certain issues. To begin with, it was an unfunded mandate. They didn’t receive any government funding, but it didn’t stop the government making them follow directives when they wanted to.

Eventually, it was decided here that governments would provide some funding but that came after the mandates.

(The ‘Goulburn School Strike’ was the seminal moment - in response to a government’s unfunded mandate, the Bishop of Goulburn shut down the Catholic schools and told parents to enrol their children at the local government schools - which could not come close to absorbing that many children).

Refusing funding doesn’t guarantee non-interference. If governments want to interfere in private schools, they will do so, whether they provide funding or not.
