On Thursday, a local source in Nineveh province said, that the ‘Wild Boar’ aircraft which belongs to the U.S. Air Force has carried out four air strikes that killed and wounded dozens of ISIS elements, adding that the aircraft sparked panic in the ranks of ISIS.

The source said in an interview for IraqiNews.com, “The U.S. aircraft A-10 Warthog (Wild Boar) carried out, at dawn today, four air strikes on gatherings of ISIS elements in the village of Sultan Abdullah in Makhmour district, southeast Mosul,” adding that, “The raids resulted in the death and injury of dozens of ISIS elements.”

The source, who requested anonymity, added, “The aircraft sparked panic in the ranks of ISIS after bombing its elements and flying in spaces close to the ground,” adding that, “Elements of the terrorist organization targeted the aircraft with 4 Strela missiles and but that did not cause it any damage, prompting the remaining elements of the organization to leave the bodies of their dead and carry the wounded to escape towards the Shirqat district (120 km north of Tikrit).”

“They were built by Republic Aviation, are they still in business?”

I think it was Fairchild Aviation. IIRC.

Exactly! And the A10 does it all. Slow speed and very low altitude. They kicked butt in Desert Storm I and will continue to kick A$$ in the middle east for the next 50 years if allowed to do so.

The mouth looks 'hollow' but that's actually glossy black paint and a reflection from the GAU-8/A cannon...

BEAUTIFUL!

She’s an affable dunce who’s lack of experience is leading her to buy into what the pro-F-35 brass are telling her.

By law the Army isn't allowed to operate fixed wing combat aircraft; that dates back to the founding of the Air Force as a separate branch. As for the Marines, their combat aircraft and helicopters are all capable from operating from amphbious ships or aircraft carriers. Part of their mandate for amphibious operations. The A-10s can't do that.

The correct designation is "Fairchild-Republic A-10".

Coincident with manufacture of the A-10, Fairchild Industries acquired or merged with Republic Aviation.

Its an ARMY thing, they need it because of sustained operations against armored vehicles and to counter artillery.

The Army can't operate fixed wing attack aircraft. The Air Force got that restriction when they were created as a separate branch.

There’s a loophole in the Key West Accords: the Army is allowed to operate fixed wing battlefield observation, surveillance and recce aircraft.

Which can be armed.

Example is the OV-1 Mohawk (no longer in service).

Thanks, I remembered Fairchild because we had a Fairchild electronics up here where I live that worked with IBM in the early 80’s.

The Army had more pilots than the Air Force and the Navy in Viet Nam. I looked for pictures and came up with this, there were4 others like the armed Bronco and a small twin jet engined GS model. I don’t know how to post the pictures but here is a reference. I flew in a couple of the ARMY fixed wing aircraft, but not the ones with weapon racks.
