Facebook unwittingly provides evidence of infidelity and new relationships, helps track people’s movements and records expenditure on everything from cars to holidays.
Facebook is now cited in a third of all divorce cases, research has shown.
A survey of legal firms’ caseloads revealed the social network is increasingly relied upon as proof of inappropriate behaviour.

Leeds law firm Lake Legal said many cases revolved around social media users who got back in touch with old flames they hadn’t heard from in years.
Managing partner Lyn Ayrton said: “Social media provides an ongoing log of our lives. The sharing of written posts and pictures, often with geo-tagging, provides a record of activities that can be used in a court case.

If you are self-centered and stupid and having an affair, you probably are going to get caught sooner or later. Facebook just accelerates the inevitable by having you broadcast your infidelity to the world in a way that your spouse and his/her attorney can see and document it.
Supposedly I’m in the prime age group for it, and I’ve never found the fascination. Never had an account.

That’s kind of a interesting question. The old fashioned way I guess, but it started on facebook. Looking up old lovers. It’s much easier to find them now with facebook. Then one thing leads to another. I guess they were doomed to get divorced.

It must be an insecurity thing. I think it is the prime example of whats wrong in the usa. People get in there and just act stupid. Too lazy to go visit, and bear their soul just as often lie. It just isn’t real. I guess it’s the instant gratification generation.
I love FB. That is how I keep up with family and friends but people who post that kind of stuff are nuts. Private thing should not be posted for the whole world to see. I have received HB notes from friends and relatives from across the country today. They really made my day more special.
Heh! My last ex met someone while playing the online game, “Everquest.” They’re now married and living in Norway.
I met my current Wife through Classmates. She and I were a, “Thing,” back when we were in 8th grade.
We’ve been married now going on 3 happy years.
I personally don’t think it has anything to do with Facebook.
It has to do with content of character.
Facebook doesn’t kill marriages, it just provides a place for dead marriages to store evidence. What once were phone calls and hard to prove are now wall posts and displayed to everyone.
I wonder how many people wind up cheating on their spouses because of on-line gaming that turns into a relationship.......
I bet quite a few....
Check out spouses who play on Second Life......lots of virtual cheating that turns into real cheating and divorce.

When the game was highly popular it had three teenagers and my wife hooked...
Daily battles over who could play and the time limits
My daughter did meet her future husband on it... my wife was being asked to move to France to hook up with some guy...
I was looking though my history cache and see all these websites about France...
Wife confessed some gamer dude was hitting on her hard... she was quite embarrassed by it...
One weekend I got so sick of the game running my family life I just deleted it...
My word, you would have thought I committed multiple murders and baby sacrifices...
Mine are old flames for a reason.

Ugh... You lost her to Everquest. At least she didn’t leave you for a guy who’s been playing Dark Age of Camelot for the last 12 years.
Neither did I. Then I got divorced, joined FB, found an old flame and now couldn’t be happier. We were both single btw.:-)
Oooh, DAoC, there’s something I haven’t heard of in a while.
Well in my case, it turned out better than I’d hoped.
I got the kids, the house and both cars.
I play a LOT of chess.
She honestly just wasn’t all that thrilled with the prospect of being with me anymore, and we still get along great. We’re very happy for each other.
Content of character.
Being honest with one’s self helps a lot, too.
(On a funny note, my Sons and I played a LOT of Left 4 Dead after the divorce. It taught us all that relying on each other is important. Considering that I have always been the only constant in their lives, it makes a huge impact. One that I hope they’ll use to make them better men in their futures)
