For all the nonsense we have heard about Global Warming over the past decade, a plunge into an Ice Age would be catastrophic. Even a “Little” Ice Age would result in massive starvation and economic depression. We need all the man made global warming that we can get.

"What Triggers Ice Ages?" After reading all the available material on the subject apparently the cause for GlobalWarmingCoolingClimateChange is:
1. Hummers.
2. Cow Flatulence.
3. And anything liberals don't like...

Perhaps we should back up and say, what starts “COLD” ... then ... :-) ...

That is easy, less heat

Supposedly when JP Morgan was asked what he thought the stock market would do his reply was “It will fluctuate, son”.
Same goes for climate/weather. This much we know.
To: mountainlion
And then what is the start of less heat?
You see ... we’re looking for causes here and not merely definitions. It’s the cause that is the key.

The sun is 35% cooler so that is not the answer. Last time the antarctic had a warming episode it was the sensors on the satellites. The temperatures of the 1880s are changing which affects the averages.
I really think the problem is Al Gore and his need to make $100M in 8 years.

Going to causes ... as I pointed out in my last post, and to get to the point ... I would say it’s the sunspot activity, which affects some particles from outer space, which then affect cloud cover ... and then also volcanic activity. Besides sunspot activity, there is a variance in the sun’s heat output, too (which would be a different matter from sunspot activity).
That’s naming three causes there ... :-) ...

You left out cosmic rays and half of the heat of earth comes form radioactive decay of the core.

The particles from outer space were what I was talking about in terms of cosmic rays, which affect cloud cover, which is governed by sunspot activity.
I’m not sure how much the inner core heat relates to climate change, however.

I see “climate change” as a money making scam and government control mechanism. I see the temperatures of the earth as Climate.
