“I think something else is going on....but I don’t know what. “

How about media hype?

Some concrete facts. Confirms Peter Kinds version of the handling/testing of the balls.

So the Ravens tipped off the Colts that the Patriots balls might be underinflated....and then a Colt says...gee...I think this is underinflated.(I think I got the gist of it.)

And I'm now thinking sabotage.

The Ravens also complained about Patriot illegal plays which were legal.

If fact, even when the ref told the DB NOT to cover the ineligible receiver he still did so. DUMB, DUMB and DUMBER ... and sour grapes.

"...the fact their "star" quarterback clearly lied and cheated..."

Without proof it is just supposition, not a fact.
You may want to think he's a liar and a cheat, but right now that is just not a fact. Sorry.

I’m lepton. That post was TO me, not from me. As a matter of fact, I corrected the numbers.

Yeah...we don’t know the initial temperature...or a whole bunch of other things, the total of which are of similar size as the reported results. Even how recently the balls had been inflated could play into it, as the air could have been even warmer than room temperature to begin with.

What the test demonstrates is that a temperature change of approximately 24 degrees can reduce the pressure by about 1.4 PSI. There are other factors that might change it a bit more.

Maybe the NFL will release enough detail to determine whether that accounts for it all, or not.

"Are you seriously arguing they cheated..."

I am not arguing that they cheated - you guys are the ones stating that.
None of us really know what happpened - it is all supposition, and until we do know the facts, it is also slander.

For that, I’d have to review more to see who is holding those balls. There is an attempt to keep them segregated though, but every so often it’ll be noted the wrong ball got in the wrong pile.

http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/extra_points/2015/01/report_colts_tipped_off_by_ravens_harbaugh_says_te.html

But head coach John Harbaugh said his team didn’t notice anything wrong with the pigskin in his team’s AFC divisional round loss to the Patriots on Jan. 10, adding that he believes the softness in the kicking balls was related to the weather that day.

“We did not notice anything,” Harbaugh told ESPN on Wednesday. “We never had a ball that they used or anything like that on offense, so we don’t know anything about that in our game. We didn’t have a chance to handle any of their offensive footballs.

“As far as the kicking balls, it was 20 degrees out, so the balls were softer,” Harbaugh said. “Our guys told us during the game, and I just chalked that up to the fact that it was cold and that both teams were kicking the same kicking balls, so I didn’t think really anything of it during the game. Other than that, it’s not something we’ve really given any thought to at all.”

This is what the referenced links say:

The playing rules are intended to protect the fairness and integrity of our games. We take seriously claims that those rules have been violated and will fully investigate this matter without compromise or delay. The investigation is ongoing, will be thorough and objective, and is being pursued expeditiously. In the coming days, we expect to conduct numerous additional interviews, examine video and other forensic evidence, as well as relevant physical evidence. While the evidence thus far supports the conclusion that footballs that were under-inflated were used by the Patriots in the first half, the footballs were properly inflated for the second half and confirmed at the conclusion of the game to have remained properly inflated. The goals of the investigation will be to determine the explanation for why footballs used in the game were not in compliance with the playing rules and specifically whether any noncompliance was the result of deliberate action. We have not made any judgments on these points and will not do so until we have concluded our investigation and considered all of the relevant evidence.

Upon being advised of the investigation, the Patriots promptly pledged their full cooperation and have made their personnel and other information available to us upon request. Our investigation will seek information from any and all relevant sources and we expect full cooperation from other clubs as well. As we develop more information and are in a position to reach conclusions, we will share them publicly.

If anyone should be punished it should be the NFL for calling their referees professionals if they can't tell a ball is inflated properly or not

Can't argue with that! Thanks!

Please convert from psig to psia.

You're right! Furthermore, I made an incorrect calculation in converting to Kelvin. I'm going to revisit my post #60 and make corrections. I am also going to quit doing physics before I've had my two cups of morning coffee.
