Why don't the Troopers pull over everyone exceeding 55? Because it's not really a big deal, and normally considered an acceptable practice.

Because the Colts forced the Official's hands on this and went public, and because a lot of NFL fans hate the Pats, and because it sells newspapers and air time.

So - if the original rumor is based on 2lbs lighter than the 13.5 max psi - that means the balls were “under inflated to 12 lbs - not 10.
No one knows - ‘cause the NFL isn’t doing a damned thing to clear up what is rumor and what is not.

That list, is about the whole list of those arguing against...and you should have seen the dumbassery Brunell, Bettis, and Dawkins were spouting. Bettis especially, was simply casting aspersions with no idea what was being discussed.

That is BIG news. I hadn't seen that yet. All I heard is that the balls were under the limit. I didn't know that, as a fact, it had been tied to Brady.
Which “It”? Use of unidentified pronouns has muddied the conversation almost as much as the completely contradictory reports.
The precedent penalty is...a reminder note. The Vikings, for example, we’re caught on camera heating balls during a cold game just this year. Aaron Rogers claimed in November that he pumps the balls up beyond the guidelines because he likes the ball even harder...and pretty strongly implies that those balls regularly make it through “inspection”.
Theisman personally experimented with ball inflations and said he can’t tell the difference in the range being discussed, as have others. Anything above 10 PSI is just plain hard.
No one on the field apparently noticed any difference when the Pats used the Colt ball in the firs half (per Colt LB), or when they used the balls inflated at half-time.
This not armed robbery - this is a parking violation.

What really amuses me is all the “smart” commentators like Eric Bolling talking about a lighter ball as if PSI was a measure of weight.
The government's gonna have to step in and establish some football standards and oversight. Gonna have to have a federal government football apparatchik at all football games in charge of the footballs.
He, or she, will be armed with a pressure gauge and will check out a single football to the head coach only after he's signed for it. If he wants another football he's gotta bring the first one back, and if a ball goes into the stands or whatever there's gotta be an environmental impact report.
Same thing for college, high school, and little league.

Yes, they tested the pressure of all the footballs being used or designated to be used in the game. Eleven of of the twelve balls designated game balls on the Patriots sideline were under inflated by (on average) two pounds. All twelve balls on the Colts side were found to be properly inflated.
...and those are hardly the only variables.
Using those same gas laws, filling the ball immediately before submitting will give much different results than if the balls were filled, then stuck in the hold of a bus, then filled again. Filling a ball warms the air...potentially a lot.
There’s also leather stretching from being wet, and changing the volume.
...and no idea when the measurements on the Colts balls were done - reporters have noted that they are unable to verify that.
